MY EQUIPMENT
All photographs were taken with Canon EOS equipment -- my Elan IIE and EOS 3 35mm cameras, or more recently my EOS 10D and 20D SLR digital cameras. Up until
a few years ago I shot everything using 35mm transparency (slide) film, either Fuji Velvia 50 or Kodak E100VS, to capture the
brilliant colors that I love to photograph. I also shot 35mm black and white images on Ilford or Kodak Plus-X or Tri-X films which I printed in my own dark
room.
The amazing advancements in digital technology finally convinced me to convert, and I now use only my EOS digital cameras and many different lenses to create the images.
PRINTING
With the retirement of my dark room, all my photograph printing is now done on Epson inkjet printers. I use an Epson R300 to print each of my photo note cards that I sell at art shows.
I also use an Epson 2200 for my smaller prints, and an Epson 4000 for my larger ones, both of which use archival pigment inks. I print primarily on Epson luster paper, my favorite, but
occasionally use matte or glossy paper if requested.
I'm investigating the process of printing photographs on canvas and other fine art papers and enjoy experimenting with the different results.
My Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 photo scanner is used to convert all my slides and black and white film images to digital so I can print them on my Epson printers as well.
FIELD TECHNIQUE
I normally shoot using only natural light, which can take a lot of patience, but gives me the warmth and mood I'm looking for in a photograph. I use
a tripod and cable release to get the sharpest image possible that is worthy to enlarge.
I like to get off the beaten path and love the combination of
isolation and natural beauty that so many places in this world of ours have to offer. Traveling to new and exciting places with all my camera gear in tow is
truly a passion that I hope to pursue for many, many years to come.
